Valentina Pumpin – The dentist being hailed a "marketing genius"

A Chilean dentist called Doctora Valentina Pumpin is going viral on TikTok and social media and being hailed a "marketing genius" for her funny videos with horrendously bright white false veneers.

In videos like this one she introduces herself as an expert in whitening and veneers: "Hola, soy la doctora Valentina Pumpin, experta en blanqueamiento y carillas dentales."

Dr. Pumpin started working at the Happy Tooth Dental Clinic in Santiago de Chile in February this year and shortly after she set up accounts on TikTok and Instagram.

She's built up more than a million followers and 30 million likes on TikTok since she started posting on the platform in April.

Her follower count and engagement has skyrocketed over the last month especially as people all over the world stumble across the videos she's been making with her unmissable bright white veneers and funny facial expressions.

This TikTok – thanking her viewers for all their support – is her biggest video on TikTok with 130 million views and nearly six million likes. English speakers who've come across her videos but don't understand Spanish are commenting to ask "What is going on???" – and others are jumping in to explain "She's marketing her business, her teeth actually don't look like this and the eye thing is also just jokes."

That video has also been getting shared around on X by English-speaking accounts like this post describing it as "the most ironic video on the internet" ... despite not everyone realising the humour is intentional.

Comments on this TikTok joke about Valentina "rage baiting" the internet. In the video she addresses comments about her teeth being too white: "Hello, Doctor Valentina Pumpkin here again. There's been a lot of talk on social media about the colour of my teeth. However, I think it's because of the artifical lightning that I have in my practice."

Other comments asked why Valentina had only whitened her upper teeth and left her lower teeth yellow – so she fixes it in this one: "Due to the number of comments I've received about my smile I've decided to change it to be more symmetrical."

As she's become TikTok famous people have been posting parodies of her – which are also getting millions of views and likes.

A TikTok content creator called Raphaël Flori has done a whole series of parody videos – like the one which people are impressed by because of how spot on he is with the teeth and facial expressions.

In lots of the parody videos people are using strips of white paper to achieve Valentina's iconic look. Comments on this one joke about how "chronically online" you need to be to understand what's going on – and wonder how English speakers have come across her all of a sudden:

• "Even english speakers found about her I'm crying 😭"

• "IT REACHED THE ENGLISH SIDE???"

• "I just saw a vid, I clicked the search which was valentina pumpin and I see atleast 5 of her videos maybe more everyday"

She's become such an iconic character on TikTok that fans can't stop repeating her "Hola, soy la doctora Valentina Pumpin" catchphrase ... which can be awkward when somebody doesn't get the reference!
