An excited voiceover to a Jet2 advert has taken off as one of the biggest and most recognisable sounds on TikTok over the last few months – and has now been used in a million videos. You can see examples in this read-only Shooglebox.
People are saying "Jet2 must be absolutely loving all this free advertising" as the sound reaches people way beyond their traditional audience.
Where does the sound come from?
The advert inspiring the trend is from Jet2's New Year sale in January 2024 where they let customers know "right now, you can save £50 per person – that's £200 off for a family of four!"
It was uploaded to TikTok last August by an account called @aviation_on_tiktok2Â whose sound people are using on the current trend.
Holiday disasters and other mishap videos
The funniest videos on the sound that have gone really viral are from people sharing clips of their holiday disasters and all other kinds of things not going to plan.
People are amused by the contrast between the advert's upbeat voiceover and the chaotic scenes, whether it's a tubing excursion gone wrong, breakfast getting taken by the wind, or even a couple arriving at a hotel to find it hadn't even been built yet.
Some of the videos are genuinely scary, like this ziplining incident which comments are saying is "a lawsuit right there".
The biggest video on the entire sound, with more than 200 million views, shows a guy opening his hotel room curtains to find the tiniest of windows.
People lipsyncing to the voiceover
Other people have gone viral with their lipsync videos to the sound – including comedy content creator Alexandra Eve Walton with this one where her glasses fall off.
Some families and friend groups have filmed themselves lipsyncing to the sound as they head off on their holidays with Jet2 and other airlines.
Voicover artist Zoë Lister
English actress Zoë Lister, who used to play Zoe Carpenter in Hollyoaks, is the voice behind the advert and has been interviewed this week on the Capital Breakfast Show about it going viral.
She said, "It's really gone completely nuts. Like, the last few months, it's just been ramping up and ramping up, and the videos are getting funnier."
Chris Stark, one of the Capital presenters, even brought Zoë out to do the voiceover at his DJ set at Newmarket Racecourse.
Jess Glynne concerts
Jess Glynne – whose Hold My Hand song has been used by Jet2 since 2015 – has referenced the advert at some of her concerts this summer which fans think is "iconic".
It's becoming a trend for people attending Jess Glynne concerts to film themselves quoting the advert when she sings Hold My Hand.
Comments on this TikTok filmed at Chelmsford City Live say "I don't think Jet2's marketing team initially realised how well they nailed the job."
Someone even made their own "Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday" banner for Jess Glynne's appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival.
Fake advert replacing Jess Glynne
Just this week, a couple of accounts started a rumour that Hold My Hand by Jess Glynne was being replaced by Waiting For You by Rita Ora.
Lots of people in the comments were surprised by what turned out to be fake news – mourning the "end of an era" and calling on Jet2 to "bring back Jess".
Jet2 quickly confirmed the rumours aren't true and "Jess is here to stay".
